Y11 Trip to The Globe
Posted on: 13/10/2023Last term some of our Y11 students travelled to London’s Globe Theatre to watch a production of their GCSE text Macbeth.
Students particularly enjoyed the experience of being groundlings at this theatre, as this meant they were closest to the stage, with some having lines delivered directly to them, or finding themselves right beside an actor delivering news from the battlefield! It was a fully immersive experience, the daylight bringing the play to life with a clear sense of the stagecraft, acting and directing choices on show.
We all came away with a strong understanding of the visceral nature of the play, the importance of the key motif of blood and the overarching power of the witches. Whilst superstition suggests that Friday 13th October as a date to watch ‘The Scottish Play’ should have been unlucky, we found that luck was on our side and not a single drop of rain fell!
